What's a mom to do?

Okay, moms, I need your help! I am currently in search of some modest/trendy/sun protectant swim wear for my young ladies. For what I'm finding the sizes come 2-16 or women's. My 11 year old would not be very modest in an unlined suit without "support" that my 6 year old would wear, nor would it be proper to put her in a woman's suit.

I had to laugh when Victoria's Secret was listed under "modest swim wear". You've got to be kidding me! Then I had to ponder what it would feel like to swim clothed from head to foot with my huge hair covered in a hood. I think not.

What's a mom to do? If only I had hours to surf the web, but alas, I do not. I'm open for some ideas here.

Have you looked at Land's End or LL Bean? Speedo also tends to make modest suits and most are lined, even in smaller sizes.

Good luck. I cannot even imagine bathing suit shopping for myself right now, forget little girls!

Do you have a swimsuit store where swimteams go for suits. A friend told me about practice suits that are made of polyester instead of spandex and won't stretch out. My 12 year old found one she liked and it is modest and cute. It was $41 but I was happy to find one she liked.

I like the "surfer style" suits. It might look odd at an indoor pool, but around here at the beach a lot of people (ok, surfers) wear them.

Speedo swimsuits are probably the most modest I've seen - people who wear Speedos are more inclined to actually SWIM in them than lounge around looking pretty, if you KWIM. They are functional.

Then again, ALL of my kids (M/F) wear t-shirts because we all burn to a crisp at the beach!

Speedo was my vote. Kohl's has them. ;)

I was going to recommend Land's End or LL Bean also. Some of the women's suits don't look "all grown up" from Land's End but might offer the modesty that you need.

As a wise friend once told me, modesty is not a problem in the water, but out of it. Don't forget a good cover-up!

I don't have a lot of experience with little girls (I'm guessing you're not going to go with swim trunks!!), but we've always had great luck with Land's End swimwear. I checked the website, and some of the size 7-16 suits are lined--don't know if they're too "little girly" though. We get lots of stuff free at Land's End by putting big things like Tim's masters classes, hotels, etc. on our Discover Card and using the cash back to get bonus gift cards at Land's End (Tim always makes sure we actually have the money to pay off the Discover or else the free stuff at Land's End wouldn't really be helping us much!!!!). Anyway, I've gotten lots of swimwear, flip flops, backpacks, diaper bags, etc. for free.

This is a tough one! My dd is only 5 but has the legs of a beauty queen in the making. I refuse to let her wear a 2-piece (although my family thinks I'm ridiculous) but still am not so happy with the 1-pieces either. We live around Amish/Mennonite so their plain stores might have something but....Hmmmm... I wish could help but this is a question that I have also!
The surfer or speedo (brand names yes - but worth the money for modesty) are probably the best to be found for girls.

I have been told LLBean or Land's End. HOpe you find something. I was in the little girls section at Target and completely baffled at what we put out there for little girls these days. GROSS.

Monica--
if you're ordering from Lands End--I received an email today with a $3 shipping code but it's only good today, April 1.

Enter the Source Code SPEEDY and the PIN 406957461 in the space provided.

Every bit helps!

I found this site online. They have tankini suits that are extra long, lined and padded.

We got the girls Speedo bathing suits at TJ Maxx last year for a great price. They were very modest. Let me know how it goes.

I just ordered my 11 y/o daughter a suit from www.swimmodest.com
Expensive, for sure...but we plan on passing it down to at least two other girls.

This was the "trendiest" of the modest swimsuits I found...my daughter thinks it's really cute, and can't wait for it it arrive.

A couple other sites to check out:
http://www.wholesomewear.com
(a little more modest)

and
http://www.ohanaswimwear.com/
(a little less modest)

Good luck!

We buy the oldest girls, now nine and ten, a modest one piece and a pair of coordinating boys swim trunks. My girls really like this. It gives them a lot of "freedom" to play without worrying about keeping their suit in place or not being modest enough. I am sure clothing will become more challenging as they mature over the next couple of years. Let us know what you find!

I noticed that you got a bunch of recommendations for Land's End. They do tend to be pricey though so keep your eyes open for the board shorts (with built in pant) at costco and the swim shirts at Old Navy.

I bought the girls speedo's from costco. They are nice sports style suits that don't slip:) and at a great price!
